Monsoon Car Care Tips: Get Your Maruti Suzuki Rain-Ready

A car that was running perfectly fine in the dry months can develop entirely new problems the moment roads start flooding, wipers get used daily, and humidity creeps into places it normally doesn't. 1. Tyres: Tread Depth Matters More Than Usual

Worn tyres are dangerous all year, but monsoon is when they actually get you into trouble — low tread depth is the single biggest cause of hydroplaning (the car skating on a film of water instead of gripping the road). Run a coin test on all four tyres, and don't ignore the spare. If tread is below 3mm, replace before the rain starts, not after the first skid. Tyre pressure also needs a re-check — cooler, wet roads change the ideal pressure slightly from what you'd run in peak summer.

2. Wipers and Washer Fluid

Wiper blades that were fine in April are often cracked or leaving streaks by July — rubber degrades in heat even without being used. Streaking wipers during a heavy downpour on the Ladwa Road stretch is one of the more common reasons for reduced visibility accidents in this belt. Check both blades for cracking, and top up washer fluid — you'll use it far more often once mud starts splashing onto the windshield.

3. Brakes: Get Them Inspected, Not Just "They Feel Fine"

Wet brakes behave differently — stopping distances increase, and worn brake pads that felt adequate on dry roads can feel alarmingly weak once water gets into the mix. This is the one system where a home check isn't really enough; get the pads, discs and brake fluid inspected at a proper service bay before the season sets in.

4. Battery and Electricals

Humidity is hard on electrical connections and battery terminals — corrosion builds up faster, and a battery that's already a couple of years old is far more likely to give up during monsoon than in dry weather. Get terminals cleaned and the battery load-tested. It's a five-minute check that avoids a very inconvenient breakdown on a flooded road.

5. Underbody, Exhaust and Rust Protection

Standing water and slush accelerate rust on the underbody, exhaust pipe and wheel arches — parts that don't get a second look the rest of the year. An underbody wash and inspection before monsoon, and periodically through the season, catches rust before it becomes a structural repair instead of a quick touch-up.

What To Do If You Get Stuck in a Waterlogged Stretch

• Never restart the engine if it has stalled in deep water — cranking a flooded engine is what causes real damage (hydrostatic lock), not the water itself.
• If water is above the exhaust pipe or door sills, don't attempt to drive through — turn back if you can.
• If the car does stall in water, get it towed rather than attempting a restart — call us and we'll arrange it.
• Once out, avoid driving further until it's been checked — water in the engine oil or air intake needs to be assessed before you put more load on the engine.
